A free light for Zoom, Teams and Meet
A bright screen is a large, soft light source, which is what makes faces look natural on camera. Put a tablet, phone or spare monitor showing white in front of you, a little above eye level, about an arm’s length away. In a dim room that is often enough to remove the grainy, dark look of a webcam. The Zoom lighting page adds warm and cool presets, and the Zoom lighting guide covers one-, two- and three-device setups and how to stop glasses glare.
Cleaning a monitor, laptop or phone
Dust and fingerprints are almost invisible on a dark screen and obvious on white. Open the cleaning mode, which hides every control, then wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth from top to bottom. For stubborn marks, mist the cloth (never the screen) with distilled water. Switching to black at the end shows streaks and lint that white misses. Our 5-minute monitor cleaning routine explains what is safe on matte, glossy and OLED screens.
Checking for dead and stuck pixels
On a white field, a dead pixel shows as a tiny black dot because none of its red, green or blue sub-pixels light up. A stuck sub-pixel shows as a red, green or blue dot. White is a good first pass, but the reliable method is to step through white, black, red, green and blue — that is exactly what the dead pixel test automates. Read how to find dead pixels for a step-by-step method, and stuck pixel fix methods if you find one.
Brightness, uniformity and tint
White is the hardest colour for an LCD backlight to show evenly. Look for darker corners, a yellow or pink tint along one edge, or cloudy patches. Some variation is normal on every panel; it matters when it is obvious from your normal seat or clearly worse than another unit of the same model. For the opposite test, use the black screen or backlight bleed test in a dark room. A mid grey screen reveals banding and the “dirty screen effect”.
Lightbox, tracing and reading
A tablet at full brightness makes a simple lightbox: lay thin paper over it and trace. Keep the pressure light — pens can scratch glass and pressure can mark an LCD. A dimmed white or yellow screen is also a soft reading light for a paper book.
Flashlight, ring light and photography
No torch handy? The screen flashlight fills the display with bright white or a red night-vision light. For selfies and makeup, the ring light mode lights only the edges of the screen, like a real ring light. Product photographers use a white screen behind small, translucent objects as an even backlight.
A white image file instead of a page
For a TV with a USB port, a projector, a wallpaper or a design background, download a solid PNG from white screen image in 1080p, 1440p, 4K or 8K, in white or any colour. The image is generated in your browser, so it is instant and private.
Brightness tips for the brightest white
- Raise the hardware brightness. The on-page slider only dims. Real brightness comes from your system settings or the monitor’s buttons.
- Turn off auto-brightness and battery saver. Both quietly cap the backlight. Laptops on battery can be 20–40% dimmer, so plug in.
- Disable warm filters for a neutral white. Night Light (Windows), Night Shift and True Tone (Apple), Eye Comfort (Samsung) and f.lux all tint white towards orange.
- Watch HDR on Windows. With HDR on, ordinary white can look grey. Raise the “SDR content brightness” slider under Display → HDR.
- Typical brightness: office monitors 250–350 nits, good laptops 400–500, modern phones 800–1,000+ in high-brightness mode. That is why a phone close to your face can be a stronger light than a big monitor across the desk.
- OLED caution. OLED screens may dim a full white image automatically (ABL) and should not show the same bright image for many hours. Short sessions are fine.
Works on every device
The white screen runs in any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Samsung Internet — on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iOS. Desktop browsers and Android support true fullscreen. iPhone Safari does not allow web pages to go fully fullscreen, so the white overlay fills the browser area; rotate to landscape and hide the toolbar by scrolling for the most coverage, or add the page to your home screen. Smart-TV browsers usually work as well, or you can cast a laptop tab.
There is nothing to install, no account and no ads. The site is a set of static pages with one small script; the colours are drawn locally, nothing is uploaded and no cookies or trackers are used. See the privacy policy.
White or another colour?
Pick the field that matches your goal.
| Goal | Best screen | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Video-call or selfie light | Warm white | Soft and flattering on most skin tones |
| Cleaning | White, then black | White shows smudges, black shows streaks and lint |
| Dead pixels | White, black, red, green, blue | Each colour lights different sub-pixels |
| Stuck sub-pixels | Cyan, magenta, yellow | Each switches one channel off, so a stuck one glows |
| Backlight bleed | Black and bleed bars | Leaking light is only visible on dark areas |
| Banding, dirty screen effect | Grey | Mid tones show uneven brightness best |
| Night light | Orange or red, dimmed | Little or no blue light from the panel |
If something does not work
The screen does not go fullscreen. Some browsers need a direct click, and embedded or in-app browsers (inside social apps) often block fullscreen. Open the page in your main browser. On iPhone, fullscreen for web pages is limited by Safari; the white overlay still covers the page.
The white looks yellow or blue. A blue-light filter, a warm or cool colour profile, or the panel’s own white point is tinting it. Turn the filters off and compare with another screen before assuming a fault.
The screen turns off after a few minutes. That is your system’s sleep timer. Lengthen it in display or power settings for the duration of your call or cleaning, then set it back.
Toolbar keeps appearing. The toolbar shows when the mouse moves or you tap, and hides after a few seconds. Cleaning mode hides it completely.

Questions and answers
What is a white screen?
A white screen is a page that fills your whole display with pure white (#FFFFFF). People use it as a soft light, to clean a monitor, to check brightness and uniformity, and to look for dead pixels.
How do I make my screen fully white?
Press Start white screen above. Your browser switches to fullscreen and shows pure white. Press Esc (or tap Exit) to leave. On iPhone Safari the white overlay fills the page area instead of true fullscreen.
Is White Screen Checker free?
Yes. All tools are free, with no account, no install and no ads.
Do you upload my screen or use my camera?
No. The colours are drawn in your browser on a canvas. The site never asks for camera or microphone access and has no analytics or trackers.
Why is the white not very bright?
The page cannot exceed your hardware brightness. Raise the system brightness, turn off auto-brightness, battery saver and Night Light / Night Shift, and plug in a laptop.
Can I use a white screen as a light for Zoom?
Yes. Use a second device in front of you, slightly above eye level. The Zoom lighting page adds warm and cool presets.
Can a white screen find dead pixels?
It shows dead pixels as black dots. For a full check also use red, green and blue in the dead pixel test.
Can a white screen damage my display?
Short sessions are harmless. On OLED screens, avoid showing any static bright image for many hours. Never press hard on an LCD when cleaning.
Can I download a white image instead?
Yes. The white screen image page saves solid PNGs at 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 8K.
Does the page keep my screen awake?
No. Your operating system’s sleep and screen-off settings still apply. Lengthen them temporarily for long sessions.
Does it work on a TV or projector?
Yes, open the page in the TV’s browser or from a laptop over HDMI, or copy a downloaded PNG to a USB stick.
